The Project was funded in 1993 by a group of 14 families in Santa Cruz which aim was to help to parents who have children with Down Syndrome and do not have support to raise and educate their children. Down syndrome is a genetic alteration that gives special attributes such as learning problems, but it is not an illness it is just that their development will depend of the stimulation and education that they get.
This project developed a learning program for children and people with Down Syndrome that give special classes en different areas in order to integrate their students to society.
The students attend to workshops like cooking, gardening, ceramics, computers, etc.
The project also reaches to train and teach parents and families to deal with this alteration and do the correct treatment.
The funds come from parent's donations, fundraising and government.
There are about 150 students, classified in 3 levels of progress, from 0 years old and they also do workshops for adults. There are about 5 students per class and 22 people working there.
